Abarth updates 595 pocket rocket for 2017
Abarth has updated its sporty 595 for the 2017 model year with a redesigned exterior and more power.
Based on Fiat’s revamped 500 city car, the new 595 uses a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine to produce up to 178bhp, depending on variant.
The entry level 595 is now 5bhp up on its predecessor, with 143bhp on tap, while the mid-spec 595 Turismo has also received a 5bhp power hike, bringing it up to 163bhp.
The flagship 595 Competizione, meanwhile, retains its 178bhp power output and 6.7-second 0-62mph time. It also benefits from suspension tweaks and a mechanical limited-slip front differential.
Externally, the 595 is determined from its Fiat-badged brethren primarily by muscular bumpers punctuated by gaping air vents and Abarth’s trademark ‘scorpion’ badging.

Inside, the standard 595 gets more supportive sports seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and the 5in Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, while higher-spec cars get goodies such as Sabelt sports seats.
Customers can also upgrade to a 7in touchscreen, which comes with Abarth telemetry and, from September, the option of Apple Car Play or Android Auto for extra smartphone connectivity.
The new 595 is available to order now, with prices starting from £15,090 for the basic 595 Hatchback and rising to over £22,290 for the 595 Competizione Convertible.
