Corporate mobility specialist Alphabet has unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV) charge card in collaboration with EV charging firm Chargemaster. The AlphaElectric Charge Card will allow EV drivers to use over 85% of the UK’s charging points.

At present, that means users of the card will have access to 4,250 charging points based around the country, and with the European Parliament pushing for 70,000 charging points across Britain by 2020, that number is only going to increase.

Kit Wisdom, head of corporate mobility at Alphabet, said: “The AlphaElectric Charge Card is all about simplifying the process of charging EVs for drivers and fleet managers. Rather than signing up to multiple cards for the various different networks, we are able to offer drivers access to the majority of public charging points throughout the UK, including many of the Plugged in Places (PiP) schemes, through a simple one card pay-per-use solution. In addition, we’ll be providing AlphaElectric customers with access to a comprehensive map of suitable charging points through our website and the free-to-download AlphaGuide app.”

Business users of the AlphaElectric Charge Card will pay via a consolidated monthly invoice, but private membership is also available and paid through a monthly direct debit.

Each charging point will charge a slightly different amount, as with normal filling stations, though a lot of the current EV infrastructure is currently free to use thanks to government subsidies.

All subscribers will be able to track and manage their account over the internet and members will be able to use the smartphone app to find nearby charging points. The card costs £20 per year, plus pay-per-use fees.
