Celtic Recycling has added Ashwoods’ Lightfoot eco-driver technology to all 14 of its Renault Master vans.

Lightfoot uses real-time audio and visual aids to advise drivers how to drive the van in the most fuel-efficient manner. The technology is proven to deliver fuel consumption improvements of 15% on average.

Celtic has also purchased four Ashwoods Hybrid Transit vans after realising the advantages of Lightfoot.

Peter O’Rourke, Transport Manager at Celtic Recycling, said: “The Lightfoot system is making a real impact on fuel economy. We are now looking at introducing it to our HGV fleet.

“Celtic Recycling is committed to reducing carbon emissions year-on-year. We looked at a wide range of options for our LCV fleet and decided that Ashwoods offered two technologies that really suited us.”Peter O’Rourke, Transport Manager for Celtic Recycling and the company’s Project Manager, Rob Gunter, with one of their fuel-saving vans from Ashwoods Automotive

Ashwoods claim Lightfoot is more effective than driver training because the system provides guidance every day preventing drivers from slipping back into bad habits. They add that the reporting system is simple and requires only a small amount of the fleet manager’s time.

Their self-powered hybrid system can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 15-25%.

Mr O’Rourke hopes to eventually switch his entire LCV fleet to hybrid. He added: “The hybrid vehicles fit seamlessly into the fleet without requiring driver training or investment in charging infrastructure. We can just put them straight to work.”
