Fastest Land Rover yet to debut at Goodwood
Land Rover has confirmed the new, high-performance edition of the Range Rover Sport SVR, which will make its public debut at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Range Rover Sport will be the first model to take the new SVR designation, which will become uniform for all the brand’s future performance models.
Not only is this the first SVR model, but it is also Land Rover’s fastest and most powerful road car yet.
Land Rover has confirmed that the SVR will have a 550hp powertrain, but refuse to release further details. However, that power output is exactly the same as the Jaguar F-Type R, so it seems likely that the 5.0-litre Jaguar V8 has found a new use under the bonnet of the Range Rover.
Like all future models to wear the SVR badge, the fettled Range Rover Sport has had to meet stringent performance criteria to deserve its badge and Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations division made sure that the car hit its targets.
At Goodwood, a camouflaged prototype of the SVR will make a series of runs up the hill in the ‘First Glance’ category and Land Rover expect the car to go on sale in 2015.
