Ferrari has taken the wraps off the new 458 Speciale A ahead of its debut at the Paris. ‘A’ stands for Aperta, or ‘open’ in Italian, and is more than a slight giveaway that this is the drop-top version of the mighty 458 Speciale.

Only 499 examples of the Speciale A will be built, all destined for the garages of Ferrari collectors, but those select customers will be treated to the most powerful convertible ever to wear the famous Ferrari emblem: the Prancing Horse.

With Ferrari’s most powerful naturally aspirated V8 yet lurking under the cover, the Speciale A has access to 605hp and 540Nm of torque, allowing it to hit 62mph from a standstill in just three seconds, while 124mph is reached in 9.5 seconds.

That performance is achieved with the help of the car’s active aerodynamics both at the front and rear, as well as the superlight aluminium roof, which keeps the weight within 50kg of the 458 Speciale coupe.

Inside, the cockpit has a fittingly sporty look. Inspired by Ferrari’s race cars, the cabin features lightweight trim pieces such as the carbon fibre treadplates, door panels and the central transmission tunnel or the sporty Alcantara and 3D technical fabric on the newly-designed seats.
