Fiat’s new rough and tough Panda Cross is to launch on the UK market this winter, priced from £15,945.

First revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the new Cross model is based on Fiat’s Panda 4x4, but features bigger bumpers, increased ground clearance and added underbody protection to make it an even tougher model.

Proof that superminis can go off road, the new Cross comes with Torque-on-Demand all wheel drive, Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Locking Differential and Hill Descent Control all as standard to ensure that it can cope off-piste.

In addition, Terrain Control offers drivers the chance to adjust the vehicle’s driving characteristics through the choice of three driving modes; Auto, Off-Road and Hill Descent Control.

The Panda Cross is also fitted with versatile all-season 185/65R15 Mud & Snow, which are larger than those on the standard Panda 4x4. Combined with adjustments to the body, they help increase ground clearance to 161mm for TwinAir models and 158mm for MultiJet versions.

There is a choice of either a 1.3 MultiJet II diesel engine or a 0.9 TwinAir Turbo petrol engine, with 80hp and 90hp respectively.

The 0.9-litre TwinAir Turbo delivers maximum torque is 145 Nm between 1,900rpm and 3000rpm. It can accelerate from 0-62 in 12.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 104mph, while on the combined fuel economy cycle it returns 57.6 mpg (4.9 litres/100 km) with CO2 emissions of 114g/km.

The 1.3-litre MultiJet II Turbo-Diesel offers maximum torque of an impressive 190 Nm from just 1,500 rpm.

That means a 0-62mph time is delivered in 14.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 99mph. Fuel economy cycle it returns 60.1 mpg (4.7 litres/100 km) with CO2 emissions of 125g/km.

Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, Blue&Me Bluetooth connectivity with a USB port and steering wheel controls, a satellite navigation dock, heated electric door mirrors, remote central locking, split rear seat with rear head restraints, height-adjustability for the driver’s seat and steering wheel, front fog lights, a leather steering wheel and gear knob.

The new Cross will go on sale in early Q4 this year, priced from £15,945 for the TwinAir version and £16,945 for the diesel-powered model.
