Fiat Talento to rival Transit and Transporter from May
Fiat will replace its mid-size Scudo van later this year with this: the Talento.
Slotting between the smaller Doblo Cargo and larger Ducato vans, the Talento will use the same 1.6-litre diesel engines as the Renault Trafic, with power outputs ranging between 90-145bhp. It’ll borrow tech from Vauxhall’s Vivaro too.
It will be offered as a panel van, people carrier, crew cab and flat bed when it becomes available to order from the middle of May. Price and spec will be confirmed closer to its UK arrival before the end of 2016.
This is the only picture of the van so far, but Fiat describes it as “compact and well-proportioned, with bold, clear-cut lines” and “an imposing and dynamic front end”.
They add that “the grille is designed to wrap around the headlights and form a mask that together with the bumper and the grid conveys a solid and striking appearance, while offering a functional element of protection at the same time. The squared-off rear end gives the Talento a broad stance that exudes stability and strength.”
That’s all well and good but how does it function as work horse? Well, load capacity is said to be “generous” and “ample” so that’ll have to do until official load area numbers are confirmed.
Talento is Italian for ‘talent’ (fancy that?!) but also refers to an ancient coin with “high symbolic value and suggests what the vehicle can do”.
The Talento will be the second commercial vehicle to come from Fiat a matter of months, along with the Fullback pick-up truck – a rebadged Mitsubishi L200.
