ST-Line trim confirmed for Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo & Kuga
Ford has launched a new ST-Line range that offers sporty editions of its Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo complete with ST-inspired styling and sports suspension. There will also be a Kuga ST-Line, when the facelifted version is launched in the autumn.
ST-Line has been created for those who like the image of Ford’s ST models, but value efficiency over performance, and are therefore offered with a range of diesel and petrol engines, including the ultra-efficient 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.
At the top end there’s the 138bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost in the Fiesta ST-Line (delivering from 104g/km and 62.8mpg) and a 180bhp 1.5-litre EcoBoost in the Focus ST-Line (delivering from 104g/km and 62.8mpg).
Meanwhire, the Mondeo ST-Line will feature a 2.0-litre TDCi with a choice of two power outputs. The less potent version produces 148bhp (delivering from 112g/km and 65.7mpg), while the more powerful choice gets 177bhp (delivering from 117g/km and 62.8mpg).
Available from October, the Kuga can be specified in ST-Line trim in conjunction with any of its engines. However, new a 1.5-litre diesel engine will replace the 2.0-litre option – also available with any trim level. It produces 117bhp, and boasts up to 64mpg – around 15 more than the outgoing unit.
All ST-Line Fords get a sports suspension, ST specific body kit, unique alloy wheel designs, sport seats, sports steering wheel and alloy pedals for the interior.
The new performance-inspired range launches with the Fiesta ST-Line, which is priced from £15,645, and Focus ST-Line, priced from £20,595. The Mondeo ST-Line gets a list price of £24,745, while the Kuga variant tops out at £25,845.
Lease prices are already available for the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo, although you’ll have to wait until autumn if you have your heart set on the Kuga – a car Ford has high hopes for. SUVs are set to gain 27% in popularity by 2020, with the ST-Line variant joining Ford’s already expanded SUV range.
Expanding SUV range
For those after something bigger, the recently launched Ford Edge should fit the bill or, if you want the a little more luxury, the Kuga Vignale will also debut later this year.
Roelant de Waard, vice president, marketing, sales and service, Ford of Europe, said: “With our new ST-Line range even more customers can experience sporty style and driving dynamics inspired by our most exciting Ford Performance line-up ever, that includes models such as the Focus RS, new Fiesta ST200 and Ford GT supercar.”
“The new ST-Line range will offer customers a chance to enjoy the famous fun-to-drive characteristics and great looks of Ford’s performance models in an exciting and affordable package with a broad range of petrol and diesel engines.”
“This year we expect to sell 40,000 performance cars in Europe, a 50 per cent increase compared with 2015, which in turn saw performance car sales rise by 61 per cent compared with 2014.”
