Toyota is adding a new top-spec trim level to the legendary Hilux range. Called the Invincible X, the new variant will be available with a host of no-cost options, allowing customers to personalise their pick-ups.

Offered solely as a Double Cab and building on the Invincible trim, which already incorporates sports seats, climate control, automatic lights, a rear-view camera and the Toyota Touch 2 touchscreen infotainment system, the new trim level commands a £2,000 premium over the Invincible, weighing in at £23,842+VAT.

For that, you’ll get the choice of two 17in alloy wheels to choose from: the standard Invincible five-spoke alloy or the new Rica, which is offered in black or one of two two-tone machined finishes.

There’s choice when it comes to the side bars, too, with Toyota offering to include or delete the step grips according to preference. Likewise, there’s a choice of either a rear hi-over bar or the Style Pack, which includes a front guard, a silver-coloured under-run, chrome door handles and light surrounds and aluminium-finish scuff plates.

You don’t get a choice with the engine though. The only option is the 3.0-litre diesel already found in top-spec Hiluxes, which delivers 169bhp and comes with a five-speed manual gearbox. There is a five-speed automatic available, but that costs an extra £1,000 before VAT. In the more economical manual guise, the Hilux will return 36.7mpg and emit CO2 at a rate of 203g/km, putting it in the 35% BIK company car tax band.
