Honda’s “production-ready” FCV to debut in Tokyo, coming 2017
Honda has announced that it will be showing off its all-new hydrogen-powered FCV at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.
The four-door saloon will compete directly with the new Toyota Mirai and is expected to come to the UK at some point during 2017, although no dates have been confirmed.
It will be the first hydrogen-fuelled Honda to go on sale in the UK, but it will be the company’s second foray into the market, having released the FCX Clarity in California back in 2008.
Unlike the FCX, which had a 231-mile range, the FCV will get a 435-mile range and a ‘power feeding inverter’, which will allow the car to “generate and provide electricity to communities in the case of an emergency”.
The packaging has been improved too, with the fuel cell and powertrain housed entirely in the space normally occupied by an internal combustion engine.
No power outputs have been announced, but Honda’s proclamation that “exhilarating driving is made possible by the high-output motors” suggests that the new car is expected to improve on the FCX’s 134bhp output.
