Hyundai has released details of its revised ix35 compact SUV which goes on-sale from 1 September.

Visually very little has changed on the compact SUV but the engineers at Hyundai have been working away on the car’s chassis and suspension set-up, which includes changes to the dampers and coil springs in a bid to enhance ride comfort and handling.

Hyundai ix35 2013 new trims

The biggest changes have been left to the trims levels available to UK customers, the Korean brand has expanded the number of trims to five: entry-level S, mid-range SE and SE Nav and two range-topping trims called ‘Premium’ and ‘Premium Panorama’. The existing entry-level Style trim has been retired.

Also tinkered with on the new ix35 are the powertrain options, with Hyundai introducing a new six-speed automatic transmission on the 2.0-litre 136PS 4WD model which replaces the current 181PS unit and sees fuel consumption improved from 39.3mpg to 41.5mpg. In a further change, Hyundai will now offer Intelligent Stop & Go (ISG) as an option on the 1.7-litre CRDi.

Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: “The ix35 is one of the fastest-selling models in our product range with just under 30,000 units sold in the UK since launch in late 2010. The New ix35 will continue this trend as it offers retail and corporate buyers a stylish, practical and safe vehicle that is equally at home in the city as it is out of it. With the latest enhancements, the New ix35 will deliver an even greater level of value-for-money in this popular segment of the car market.”

Now with a lower entry price point, the S 1.6-litre GDi 2WD manual still comes with plenty of kit including air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, Hillstart and USB and AUX connections. The mid-range SE replaces the 16-inch alloys with larger 17-inch ones, as well as cruise control, foglights, rear parking sensors and LED taillights. The SE Nav obviously adds an integrated sat nav system but also includes rear parking camera and an upgraded sound system.

Above SE Nav are the new Premium and Premium Panorama trims. Both trims benefit from 18-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, leather interior, Bi-Xenon headlights and keyless entry. The Premium Panorama also adds a big slab of glass for a roof.
