Facelifted Jaguar F-Type available with turbocharged 4-cylinder for the first time
Jaguar has confirmed that a new entry-level four-cylinder model will feature in the recently refreshed F-Type line up.
Following its unveiling at the New York Motor Show, the 296bhp turbocharged unit will be available later in Spring, and gets a list price of £49,900.
Jaguar revealed the updated F-Type in V6 and V8 form earlier in the year, and like its more powerful siblings the entry-level four-cylinder benefits from the same design tweaks and enhanced tech.
Having been on sale since 2012, it’s the F-Type’s first update. You can tell new models apart from predecessors thanks to full LED lights and a fresh bumper design. To single the new variant out from the rest of the range, the entry-level model gets more angular, mid-mounted exhaust tips, too.
The biggest changes appear on the inside though, with new slim-line sports seats as well as chrome, carbon fibre and aluminium trim finishes on offer. Every F-Type – including the new sub-50k model – now features a ‘Touch Pro’ infotainment system, too.
An eight inch display has smartphone-esque touchscreen operation and controls real-time traffic and weather updates. Elsewhere, a park assist feature is available as an option, and can identify suitable spots and park in them at the touch of a button.
It may be the entry-level choice, but the four-cylinder is no slouch. It produces 296bhp and 400Nm of torque meaning 0-60mph takes just 5.7 seconds.
Weight reduction of 52kg and bespoke chassis tuning delivers even greater agility too, with Jaguar heralding its new variant as a true sports car, rather than an all-out supercar.
However, it’s the new F-Type R-Dynamic that’s expected to be the most popular trim. This comes with the same 335 and 375bhp V6 engines as the Type S it replaces.
For those that want ultimate power however, the 540bhp 5.0-litre V8 should do the trick, offering up 0-60mph in four seconds and a top speed of 186mph.
The standout model looks to be the F-Type 400 Sport though, which will only be on sale during 2017 and features the supercharged 3.0 litre V6 engine. It’ll be available with either RWD or AWD, and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
What’s more, thanks to Jaguar’s Configurable Dynamics System, the driver can select individual settings for the throttle, transmission, dampers and steering.
Facelifted V6 and V8 models are available now, but if you want the four-cylinder version, you’ll have to wait until order books open later in spring. If you can’t wait until then though, you can check out Jaguar lease deals here.
