Jaguar I-Pace cleans up at World Car of the Year Awards
The Jaguar I-Pace has cleaned up at the World Car of the Year Awards, taking home the trophy for World Green Car, World Car Design, and the overall World Car of the Year winner, at the New York International Auto Show.
This is the first time in the World Car Awards’ 15-year history that one car has achieved a win across three categories.
Prof. Dr. Ralf Speth, chief executive officer, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “It is an honour that the Jaguar I-Pace has received these three accolades from the prestigious World Car jurors.
“For I-Pace to be awarded 2019 World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car gives our first all-electric vehicle the ultimate recognition it deserves. I would like to thank the team who have created I-Pace for their passion in making it so outstanding.”
To date, the zero-emissions I-Pace has been delivered to over 11,000 customers in more than 60 countries. The balance of sports car performance, exceptional refinement and true SUV practicality are all reasons why it stands out in its segment.
Ian Callum, Jaguar director of design, said: “Electric vehicles offer designers unprecedented freedom to rethink the proportions, the profile and the packaging, and it’s an opportunity that my team has exploited in full.
“Winning the 2019 World Car Design of the Year award, as well as World Car of the Year and World Green Car, is true recognition for their achievements.”
It’s been a successful 2019 so far for Jaguar, with the all-electric SUV having picked up the European Car of the Year award in March. We just hope the trophy cabinet at JLR can handle them all.
The other winners from the World Car of the Year Awards include:
World Urban Car: Suzuki Jimny
World Luxury Car: Audi A7
World Performance Car: McLaren 720S
