2019 Jaguar XE gets tech and trim upgrades
The Jaguar XE has been updated for 2019, with the mid-life refresh introducing tweaked looks, a seriously improved interior as well as a plethora of tech upgrades.
Jaguar will be hoping the refresh will keep it competitive in the face of stiff competition from the Audi A4, new BMW 3 Series and the recently refreshed Mercedes C-Class.
Externally, it would appear not much has changed. But there’s a fresh grille and the front bumper gets larger air intakes. The headlights are also thinner than before, with every trim now featuring LED day-time running lights and headlights as standard.
It’s the same story at the rear: there’s a new rear bumper and the tail lights have been updated with a chicane-style design. 18in alloy wheels are standard on every model, while the trim levels are now made up of ‘S’, ‘SE’, ‘HSE’ and ‘R-Dynamic’.
Inside, changes are much more thorough. In fact it’s difficult to tell that it’s a relation of its predecessor in the cabin thanks to a plethora of new, higher quality trim. The centre-piece is the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system that gets a 12.3in interactive driver display – something it shares with its spaceship-like sibling – the I-Pace.
The influence of Jaguar’s flagship two-seater sportscar is also evident as both the SportShift gear selector and JaguarDrive Control switch shared with the F-Type are on the revised centre console. The steering wheel has also been lifted from the all-electric I-Pace, and features hidden-until-lit graphics.
The first-in-segment ClearSight interior rear view mirror improves safety and convenience by ensuring the driver has an unobstructed view of the road behind.
All trims now feature an automatic transmission and electric leather seats, front and rear park aid, a rear camera and lane keep assist. A range of option packs provide even greater personalisation, including a Dynamic Handling Pack, Cold Climate Pack, Technology Pack, Convenience Pack and a Premium Upgrade Interior Pack.
Engine-wise, things go unchanged. Two 2.0-litre turbo petrols – the P250 and P300 – produce 247bhp and 296bhp respectively. Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre D180 178bhp turbodiesel remains available and is now compliant with the latest RDE2 regulations.
