Jeep will expand the Cherokee line with a range-topping Overland model. First seen at the Geneva Motor show earlier this year, the Overland gets special interior and exterior features along with the most potent diesel engine in the range.

The new model doesn’t just get a set of badges to set it apart from lowlier models – the Overland gets a polished chrome grille and beefy body-coloured mouldings giving it an even chunkier style than usual.

There’s 18-inch polished alloy wheels, HID bi-xenon headlights, while unique Overland badges finish off the exterior. A straightforward spectrum of colours are available – Deep Cherry Red, Bright White, Brilliant Black and Billet Silver.

The interior has seen enhancements too, with opulent touches coming in the form of a wooden-trimmed steering wheel. A full Nappa leather interior (which can be ordered in Morocco Black or Pearl) is standard fitment.

Both front seats are heated and ventilated, with fully electric four-way lumbar support and feature an embroidered ‘Overland’ logo.

The fascia is dominated by a huge 8.4-inch touchscreen that controls the infotainment and navigation systems. Silver bezels help give the dashboard a classy look, while luxury Berber carpets finish off the extravagant look.

Elsewhere, all the accoutrements you’d expect to see on a top-of-the-range model are present – a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, power tailgate and parking sensors are all standard fitment.

The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine is the only unit on offer, but there’s a choice between Active Drive I and Active Drive II (Jeep’s four-wheel-drive systems). As you’d expect, both are hugely capable but, if you regularly take off-road jaunts or tow heavy trailers, Active II adds a handy low gear range.

Both systems are mounted to a nine-speed automatic gearbox that sees the Overland reach 62mph from rest in 8.5 seconds. Although it’s a large off-roader, economy is similarly impressive – the 2.2-litre Multijet diesel manages a combined cycle of 50.4mpg.

Available to order now, the Cherokee Overland costs from £38,745, rising to £39,950 for the Active II.
