High-performance Kia Stinger GT revealed
The refreshed Kia Stinger has been revealed with the high-performance fastback sports saloon boasting a range of upgrades to amplify its gran turismo character.
Kia hasn’t stopped with the Stinger when it comes to refreshing the design, the all-new Stinger includes Kia’s latest driver assist and safety features, as well as an improved interior that results in greater space and comfort for those inside.
“The Stinger remains the standard-bearer for the Kia brand, almost a decade after we first revealed the Kia GT Concept in 2011. It remains our most driver-focused car, and is capable of covering great distances in comfort and style,” said Thomas Schemera, Head of Product Division at Hyundai Motor Group.
What about the tech?
Stepping inside, the Stinger gets an upgraded cabin which features a new touchscreen infotainment system which allows the driver new functionality.
A 10.25in infotainment screen is available with one of the most exciting features being its advanced split-screen display that lets users control or monitor different vehicle features at the same time. The screen also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, with a voice control system for many of the car’s features, such as heating and ventilation, audio and navigation.
Drivers will also have a choice of two instrument cluster displays, based on vehicle specification.
- A 4.2in colour-TFT LCD cluster which delivers improved visibility and displaying a wider range of information to the driver.
- A fully-digital, high-resolution 7.0in ‘Supervision’ cluster will be available which features a full-colour display with vivid graphics for different driving modes, delivering crystal-clear information to the driver.
How about the engines?
The most powerful engine in the Stinger line-up features a twin-turbo 3.3-litre T-GDi V6 from Kia’s ‘Lambda’ engine family.
The Stinger GT will produce 510 Nm of torque which is from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm, giving the Stinger effortless performance everywhere.
The latest Electronic Variable Exhaust Valve system features a small butterfly valve in the exhaust which opens and closes. This produces a a more prominent, deeper exhaust note in Sport driving modes, or a quieter, more subdued exhaust note in Eco or Comfort mode.
How safe is it?
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offered on the previous model, will be carried over to the latest Stinger as well as a variety of new updates which will provide better protection to the driver, passengers and other road users.
The ADAS range in the Stinger is comprehensive, with many of the existing systems newly updated to include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Navigation-based Smart Cruise and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
Safe Exit Warning, Kia’s cutting-edge Blind-Spot View Monitor, Lane Following Assist, Highway Driving Assist and Rear Occupant Alert are the new ADAS technologies and convenience features that have been added to the Stinger for the first time.
