These are the first official shots of McLaren’s 570S Coupe, which has been unveiled ahead of the New York Motor Show.

It will be the first car in McLaren’s Sports Series which will sit above Super Series and Ultimate Series in the McLaren range.

Going up against the Porsche 911 and Audi R8 V10 Plus, the 570S Coupe uses a 3.8 litre V8 twin turbo engine with a power output of 570PS (562bhp) and up to 600Nm of torque.

Mated to a seven speed automatic transmission, it can erupt from 0 to 62mph in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 204mph. Furthermore, it can go from a standing stand to 124mph (200km/h) in 9.5 seconds.

McLaren says the 570S is “a classic car with a mid engined rear wheel drive layout”, and weighing just 1313kg, it boasts a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 434PS (or 427.8bhp) per tonne.

Despite the name, the 570S is actually larger than the 650S Coupe; the numbers correspond to their PS power output, if you hadn’t spotted that.

The 570S is 18mm longer, stretching for 4530m, 187mm wider at 2095mm, and 3mm taller (1202mm) but the use of a newly developed carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis helps it weigh 115kg less than the 650S (1313kg).

It’s almost irrelevant but for those wondering, CO2 emissions are rated at 258g/km with a combined fuel consumption of 25.5mpg.

A statement from the Surrey HQ’ed carmaker reads: “The McLaren design team has created a shape of beauty highlighted by details such as the rear flying buttresses that increase downforce as well as adding grace, and complex door tendons that direct additional air to cool the mid-mounted V8 engine.”

Prices are expected to start from around £140,000 when it goes on sale in April.
