Mercedes GLC: 500bhp AMG 63 now available
We’ve already witnessed a rather swift GLC in the form of the AMG 43, but now Mercedes’ in-house tuners have gone a step further. Order books have opened for the AMG 63 variants of Mercedes’ popular GLC SUV and Coupe.
Featuring AMG’s twin-turbo V8, both cars benefit from 503bhp and can reach 62mph from rest in a swift 3.8 seconds. Aiming squarely at taking on the hottest versions of Porsche’s Macan and the upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, UK deliveries will commence early next year.
The pair get a more dramatic look than standard variants featuring AMG’s usual beefy bodywork as well as a fresh set of specific 19in alloy wheels.
It’s the same story in the cabin, where you’ll find AMG performance seats, while plumping for the Premium package will get you a Burmester surround sound system, a leather dashboard and a panoramic sunroof.
Of course the cars’ stand-out points lies under the bonnet, where you’ll find a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 pumping out either 475bhp or, in the case of the ‘S’ variant, a staggering 503bhp.
The latter manages the 0-62mph dash in 3.8 seconds and, while speed is electronically limited to 155mph, it can be increased to either 167mph or 174mph.
It’s got bigger brakes to match the bigger engine too, as well as a rear diff lock and a specific AMG sports suspension. For those that want to show off the car’s horsepower to the full, there’s also a ‘Track Pace’ app as part of the Comand infotainment system, both of which are standard on all cars.
It doesn’t come cheap though – entry level none-S models get a list price of £68,920, although if you want the Coupe this gets immediately bumped up to £71,410. And the S? That costs from £78,160.
For those really wanting to splash the cash, from £90,824 you can have the GLC 63 S Edition 1. This adds features such as the selenite grey magno paint seen in the pictures here, yellow sports decals, ceramic brakes, a performance exhaust and some huge 21in alloy wheels.
The first UK customers will get their cars in early 2018. You can check out lease deals for the less potent (but still special) GLC right now though – Click here for deals on the standard SUV, or here if you prefer the Coupe.
