The order books have opened for the new Mercedes-AMG GT supercar, with the GT S and GT S Edition 1 variants scheduled for delivery in April and basic GT models expected to arrive later in 2015.

With a starting price of £97,195, the AMG GT houses a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 under its long bonnet. Producing 455bhp and 600Nm, it takes the SLS AMG replacement from 0-62mph in four seconds flat and on to 189mph.

Upgrading to the GT S and GT S Edition 1, which cost £110,495 and £122,745 respectively, substitutes that powertrain with a 503bhp version of the same V8, cutting the 0-62mph time to 3.8 seconds and upping top speed to 193mph.

As standard, all GTs get 19-inch alloy wheels, a limited-slip differential, a switchable AMG performance exhaust, an automatic rear wing, AMG sports suspension and an 8.4-inch infotainment screen.

GT S specification swaps the standard car’s 19-inch rear wheels with 20-inch alloys, behind which lurk red brake callipers and larger discs. There’s also an electronically-controlled rear differential and sports suspension with three comfort settings.

The GT S Edition 1, meanwhile, swaps the automatic rear wing with a fixed wing, adds a deep front splitter and swaps the GT S’s alloys with high-gloss silver and black rims. Other external modifications include a carbon roof, black exhaust tips and a black rear diffuser.

Inside, Edition 1s get leather and suede upholstery with red contrast stitching, AMG performance seats and a ‘Black Diamond’ textured finish on the centre console.

All AMG GTs are available with a substantial options list covering 14 different leather combinations and five centre console finishes, as well as the choice of upgrading the GT and GT S’s AMG sports seats to AMG Performance seats for £1,895. Other optional equipment includes the Premium Pack, which provides a reversing camera, mirror package, a panoramic glass roof, keyless go and a 640W Burmester sound system.

For those intending to take their GTs on a track, ceramic brakes can be specified for £5,995, while the GT S and GT S Edition 1 will be available with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package. The £1,795 option can offer greater steering feel or extra refinement by stiffening or softening the engine and transmission mounts as required.
