MG ZS: price and specs revealed for all-new crossover
This is the ZS, MG’s all-new crossover that’s aiming to rival the Nissan Juke. With entry-level models priced from just £12,495 and featuring a seven-year warranty, MG will be hoping this is the car that will re-establish the brand in the UK market.
Externally, the design fits the crossover mantra perfectly and appears to borrow styling elements from other popular compact SUVs; the headlights are certainly reminiscent of Mazda’s CX-3, although it’s that large grille featuring the famed MG badge that dominates the front.
Inside, the ZS is clearly built to a budget, but interior quality is a step up from previous models. It’s roomy too, with a 448-litre boot – more than the Nissan Juke and Ford EcoSport offers.
Three trim levels are available from launch; Explore, Excite and Exclusive. Entry-level Explore models feature an 8in touchscreen infotainment system, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity, but you’ll need the Excite or Exclusive if you want air con and cruise control.
Excite trim replaces the steel wheels with 17in alloys and Apple CarPlay, while range-topping Exclusive gets satnav, a rear-view camera and a faux-leather interior.
There’s a choice of two engines – a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit producing 105bhp, and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo producing 109bhp. The larger unit comes with a five-speed manual transmission, while the latter gets a six-speed auto.
It’s not been confirmed whether there will be a diesel model joining the line-up, but MG has said no models will feature four-wheel drive. Three steering modes feature on all models though, with Urban, Normal and Dynamic adapting the level of Power Steering assistance.
In showrooms now, entry-level Explore is priced from £12,495 – undercutting many direct rivals. The biggest appeal of the ZS however, is likely to be its seven-year warranty. We’ll bring you lease deals as soon as they are available.
