The new Audi A7 Sportback is available to order now, complete with the new V6 TDI ‘Ultra’ engines capable of as much as 60mpg.

With prices bumped up from £41,175 to a surprisingly high £45,875, the A7 also now features a revised body and a new automatic gearbox for front-wheel drive models.

On the outside, the new A7s get matrix LED lights and indicators, while S7s and Black Edition cars get ‘sweeping’ indicators, which illuminate one LED at a time so the orange indicator light appears to move across the light cluster. Inside, the 2015 car gets the highest-spec MMI Navigation Plus system which can be specified with Audi Connect, a system that links the car to the internet via a high-speed 4G. Audi’s signal-boosting Phone Box technology is also available, along with Bang & Olufsen stereo.

The ‘entry-level’ model is the SE Executive, which comes as standard with 19in alloy wheels, four-zone air conditioning, heated leather seats, parking sensors and MMI navigation. Available with the 3.0-litre diesel engine mated to a seven-speed S Tronic automatic gearbox, the three versions of the SE Executive are differentiated by power output and the Quattro four-wheel drive system. The basic, 60.1mpg, front-wheel drive ‘Ultra’ and the cheapest Quattro have 218hp, while the other Quattro variant produces 272hp.

S-Line is the next specification up, offering customers larger 20in wheels, sweeping indicators and automatically dimming headlights. The infamously hard S-Line suspension can be deselected at no extra cost, while the wheels can be downgraded to 19in to aid comfort, too. The S-Line is offered with the same engines as the SE Executive, but there is also a 3.0-litre TFSI petrol with 333hp and Quattro, as well as a BiTDI turbo engine, which gets an eight-speed ‘box and 320hp.

At the top of the A7 range are the Black Edition, the S7 and the RS7. The Black Edition is offered with the same engine range as the S-Line, but the S7 and RS7 get very different powerplants.

Audi A7 Sportback Side

With V8 petrol power, the £63,375 S7 produces 450hp, up 30hp from the outgoing model. Despite this, it manages to emit ten fewer grams of CO2 per kilometre and economy has improved marginally to 30.4mpg.

The £84,480 RS7, which will be available to order in September, uses the same engine with even more power. A substantial 560hp is fed to all four wheels through an eight-speed transmission like the S-Line BiTurbo’s, resulting in a sub-four-second 0-62mph time.
