Nissan announces Primastar-replacing NV300
Nissan has announced that it will be replacing its mid-sized Primastar van with a new model called the NV300. Slotting in between the existing NV200 and NV400 vans, the new model will provide its Japanese manufacturer with a rival to the ever-popular Ford Transit Custom.
Few details have been announced, but the NV300 is expected to share much with the Renault Trafic, although rumour has it that the gap between the two vans’ launch dates means the NV300 will get a much more unique style than the Renault’s twin sister, the Vauxhall Vivaro.

Under the skin all three vans are thought to be identical, so the NV300 is expected to offer the same one-tonne payload as the standard Trafic, and boast similar dimensions. If that turns out to be true, the standard NV300 will have a 1.66-metre-wide cargo bay and, depending on the variant, a 2.5- or 2.9-metre load length.
The Primastar’s gas-guzzling 2.0-litre engines seem likely to be scrapped too, with the NV300 taking on the 1.6-litre diesel units found in the Trafic and Vivaro. Assuming the Nissan will have similar aerodynamic properties to its sister vehicles, the most efficient NV300s could be capable of almost 50mpg.
Unlike the Trafic and the Vivaro, however, Nissan has confirmed that the NV300 will get a better warranty package – a five-year agreement covering the vehicle for up to 100,000 miles.
