Peugeot has revealed the facelift of its 508 saloon, which  features an updated grille and the latest tech, such as a touchscreen, reversing camera and blind spot sensors, as well as a host of EU6-compliant engines.

First exhibited at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the 508 range has expanded to incorporate the SW estate and the 508 RXH with Hybrid4 technology, which is designed to offer more versatility and environmental credentials.

Now, the front end has been redesigned, most notably with a new grille, which is set to become a feature in the forthcoming range of Peugeots and is now more upright and places the Peugeot lion in the middle.

Other modifications include the front and rear lights, which are now LED clusters and the bonnet, which is now more horizontal to improve the balance between the front and rear.

The interior has seen upgrades aplenty, too.  The 7in touchscreen features prominently at the top of the dash and groups together many of the car’s functions, allowing the dashboard to be de-cluttered with fewer buttons, just like the 308.

Knowing that the 508 is entering a segment controlled by executive saloons, the 508 is packed with equipment from keyless entry and the electric parking brake to the four-zone air conditioning and automatic headlight dipping, while the list of optional extras stretches to a reversing camera and blind spot sensors.  There is also extended connectivity in the shape of Peugeot Connect Apps, which is based on mobile internet technology and offers access to apps like the Michelin Guide or TripAdvisor, as well as petrol station prices, weather information and other useful tools.

The powertrain range includes a new 1.6-litre petrol engine with 165hp and Stop & Start, which is available with a six-speed manual transmission or the EAT6 six-speed automatic ‘box.  There are also two 2.0-litre diesels with 150hp or 180hp, offering CO2 emissions of 105g/km and 111g/km respectively.  Hybrid4 technology is retained, resulting in a big, four-wheel drive estate car with CO2 emissions of just 85g/km and fuel consumption figures stretching to 85.6mpg.

The car will make its public debut in August at both the Moscow and Chengdu Motor Shows, before going on sale in September.
