Fresher, faster, turbocharged 911 goes on sale prior to December deliveries
The latest iteration of Porsche’s famous 911 Carrera sports car went on sale this weekend with prices starting from £76,412. The facelifted car promises more performance and improved efficiency from a new, turbocharged powerplant, as well as improved driving dynamics and rear-wheel steering for the sportier Carrera S models.

External refinements are minor, with new lights, new door handles and a new engine cover with vertical louvres, while the changes to the interior are limited to a new infotainment system.
Under the skin, however, Porsche has been busy. As before, the engine is a flat six, but it is now a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged unit that squeezes out another 20bhp to take the total up to 365bhp. The Carrera S model has seen much the same improvement, with total output now measuring 414bhp.
As a result of the added power, both the standard car and the Carrera S can boast improved performance. The 0-62 times have been cut by 0.2 seconds, so the fastest Carrera now hits 62mph in 4.2 seconds and the fastest Carrera S breaks the four-second barrier with a 3.9-second sprint.
The new 911 isn’t just about performance though. The engine is now more efficient than before, returning as much as 38.2mpg – an improvement of roughly 10% over the pre-facelift car.
Porsche has worked on the chassis too, with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system now standard on every variant. Reducing the ride height by 10mm, the setup offers greater stability through the corners.
New dampers have also been added to improve body control and ride comfort, while the rear wheels have been widened by around half an inch to create more grip.
Add in the new rear-axle steering available for the Carrera S and the Sport Chrono package, which allows the driver to set the car up in the desired configuration, and the new 911 manages a ten-second improvement in lap time around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, tackling the infamous 73-corner, 13-mile ‘Green Hell’ in seven minutes and 30 seconds.
Prices for the new 911 start from £76,412, but the Cabriolet commands a premium of almost £9,000 and the more powerful Carrera S is almost £9,500 more expensive. That means the most expensive Carrera – the Carrera S Cabriolet – comes in at just under £95,000. Leasing deals are expected to remain fairly level, with business deals starting at around £770 per month.
For that money you get a leather interior, sports seats, satellite navigation, two-zone climate control, a Sport button, Bi-Xenon headlights, an anti-theft tracking system and a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone.
