Porsche reveals sporty Cayman GTS
With a top speed of 175mph and 0-62mph dealt with in five seconds, the Porsche Cayman S is not exactly slow, but, for those who want something a little more potent, Porsche has unveiled the Cayman GTS.
At 340hp, the GTS is the most powerful incarnation of the Cayman ever to hit the roads, and with a 177mph top speed, it’s also the fastest.
The 3.4-litre flat six is based on the Cayman S’s unit, but it provides 15 more horsepower and 10Nm more torque, accounting for a 4.6 second sprint to 62mph, 0.4 seconds faster than the standard ‘S’.
Apart from the engine, Porsche’s biggest tweaks are in the chassis. The standard Sport Chrono pack and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) allow the driver to modify both the damper settings and the throttle response. The Sport Chrono pack also automatically stiffens the engine mountings to reduce weight transfer during high-G manoeuvres, such as heavy braking or cornering.
If all that still isn’t enough, the GTS can be specified with a sports chassis, which lowers the ride height by 2cm.
The GTS is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox, or Porsche’s PDK double-clutch automatic transmission. Both have their own merits; the PDK offers better fuel economy (34.4mpg) and faster acceleration (4.6s) thanks to launch control, but the manual provides a higher top speed (177mph).
On the exterior, the GTS gets gloss black details around the lights and the Cayman GTS lettering and bolstered sports seats in the cabin.
The Cayman GTS is available to order now and will be arriving in showrooms in May.
