Chinese car manufacturer Qoros has revealed a new SUV at this year’s Guangzhou International Auto Show. Designed to take on the Nissan Qashqai, the City SUV is based on the same underpinnings as the company’s first car, the 3.

From the outside, the City SUV’s relation to the 3 is immediately apparent, with an almost identical body, albeit decorated with chunky body cladding, skid plates front and rear and bigger wheels, not to mention the 67mm increase in ride height.

Inside, all four trim levels get an eight-inch touchscreen, electric windows front and rear, keyless go, manual air conditioning and 17-inch alloys. Moving up through the range will provide luxuries like cruise control, electric seats, two-zone climate control and a rear-view camera.

Only one engine has been announced; a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 156bhp and 210Nm of torque. Mated to the basic Active model’s six-speed manual transmission, this gets the City SUV to 62mph in 10.1 seconds, while the six-speed automatic which comes as standard feature of all other trim levels extends the time to 10.8 seconds.

For the manual, official fuel consumption stands at 41.5mpg, with the automatic returning slightly less at 40.9mpg.

Although the City SUV has only been confirmed for the Chinese market, which it will enter in December, rumour has it that the car will eventually go on sale in Europe. As the car will retail in China for CN¥140,000, a starting price of £15,000 is expected if and when the City SUV arrives in the UK.
