Renault hopes it will be a match for the likes of Ford’s Focus Estate and the Volkswagen’s Golf and, from what we know about the smaller hatch, it should be more than up to the task. It gets the same striking front end as its smaller sibling, with a bumper that’s dominated by Renault’s trademark diamond badge.
It gets the same LED lighting signature up front too, while at the back, aside from an extra set of windows, the Sport Tourer looks surprisingly similar there too. That’s because it shares the hatchback’s wheelbase, which no doubt helps keep things in proportion – something not all estates can boast.
Here’s our first drive review of the smaller Megane hatchback
When it comes to estates, one of the biggest draws is boot space, which in the Megane’s case is 521 litres. That compares well against the Ford Focus Estate’s 476 litres, but falls short of the Astra Sports Tourer’s 540 and the Golf Estate’s cavernous 590-litre luggage bay.
There’s a healthy number of trim levels available, with even entry-level Expression+ models (with a list price of £18,550) boast 16in alloy wheels, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity.
Mid-level Dynamique models get Renault’s seven-inch R-Link infortainment system, sat nav, ambient lighting and a host of driver aids such as traffic sign recognition and auto-dipping headlights.

Plump for Dynamique S or range-topping signature model and things take a further step up, with Renault’s latest 8.7in touchscreen infotainment system on offer, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery and auto emergency braking.
A GT Line car is also offered and, while based on the mid-range Dynamique model, it gets its own bodykit, a wider air intake, honeycomb-style grille and its own alloy wheels.
From its launch, the Sport Tourer can be had with one of four engines – two TCe turbocharged petrol options are on the cards, with the 1.2 and 1.6-litre units producing 128bhp and 203bhp respectively.

If you’d prefer a diesel, a 1.5-litre 108bhp dCi unit is available, while a more powerful 1.5-litre diesel produces 128bhp. All versions expect the entry-level petrol engine are available with either a six, or seven speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The 1.5-litre diesel is on paper the most economical choice, with an official fuel consumption of up to 76.4mpg (NEDC Combined). In fact, economy is impressive across the board, with all models able to achieve over 50mpg.
The Megane Sport Tourer will be available to order from 1 December, with deliveries expected to commence before the close of the year. We’ll bring you lease prices as soon as they are available, but in the meantime, check out these great lease deals on the smaller Megane hatchback.
