Skoda reveals official images of 2015 Fabia
Skoda has unveiled the first official images of the new Fabia, which is both larger and more efficient than the model it will replace.
Though the car was teased in the Czech firm’s sketches, the 2015 Fabia has provided a few surprises.
Where the sketches showed a sharply swept-back windscreen and a low roofline slightly similar to the current SEAT Ibiza, the official pictures of the finished article show a much more upright stance, not unlike that of the current car. The lights, too, have gained details like the flat, LED indicators across the bottom of the headlight fairings.
That said, the bold creases of the car’s bonnet and flanks have been delivered as promised, along with the strong shoulder line and the added width, which sees the new car become a whole 9cm broader than the outgoing Fabia.
Skoda says the extra width has improved boot space, and the new Fabia will top its class in terms of luggage space with 330 litres. That’s 30 more than the old car and 40 more than the Ford Fiesta.
It isn’t just the boot which has grown. The new car’s increased width means elbow room in the front has been upped to 1,401mm – an increase of 21mm.
Other interior details include the addition of the MirrorLink function for the infotainment screen, which allows smartphone apps to be displayed on the screen.
Under the bonnet, the Fabia will feature a range of small, frugal petrol and diesel engines with stop/start as standard, promising an improvement in economy of as much as 17%. When the Greenline diesel arrives in late 2015 with a combined economy figure of 91mpg, the Fabia will be even more efficient than the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid.
With production starting at the end of this month, the first 2015 Model Year Fabias are expected to leave the factory in September.
