An estate version of Skoda’s third-generation Superb will hit the roads in the UK this September, with prices starting from £19,840 – £1,200 more than the standard saloon.

Like its saloon counterpart, the Superb Estate promises best-in-class interior space, comfort and safety.

Compared to its predecessor, it is 28mm longer (now 4861mm) and 57mm wider (1864mm) with the wheelbase stretched by 80mm (2841mm).

That longer and wider frame means that rear passengers now enjoy 157mm more kneeroom – around twice as much as any of its rivals – and up to 1001mm of headroom while elbow room is up 70mm.

Boot space is also increased by 27 litres to 660 litres with the rear bench collapsing to offer 1950 litres (previously 1865).

All you need to know about the new Superb

Five trims

Skoda has confirmed that the Superb Estate, like the saloon, will be available in five trim levels, ranging from the basic S model with 16in alloy wheels, air conditioning, a digital radio and a post-collision braking system designed to mitigate the knock-on effects of an accident.

SE models (£22,390) will improve on this with 17in alloys, two-zone air conditioning, rear parking sensors, cornering fog lights, a 6.5in infotainment touchscreen and adaptive cruise control, while the £22,790 SE Business adds Alcantara seats, satellite navigation and front parking sensors.

Further up the range, the £25,420 SE-L variants will be gifted 18in wheels, bi-xenon headlights, leather upholstery, heated seats and an 8in infotainment screen, but the pinnacle will be the Laurin & Klement. Fitted with a 10-speaker Canton audio system, heated rear seats, a heated windscreen and tri-zone climate control, as well as keyless go, Dynamic Chassis Control and several safety features like blind-spot monitoring, lane assistance and parking assistance, the £31,840 ‘L&K’ is the most luxurious model in Skoda’s line-up.

Engines

Engine options, too, match the saloon, with petrol options comprising a 1.4 TSI with either 125PS or 150PS, depending on spec, and a 2.0 TSI with 220PS or, if you want a four-wheel-drive version, 280PS.

Diesels (expected to make up the bulk of Superb Estate sales) will include a 1.6 TDI 120PS, or a 2.0 TDI with 150PS or 190PS (4x4 optional). A frugal 1.6 Greenline would return a combined mpg in the low 70s and could secure free road tax.

At present, however, provisional CO2 emissions indicate that the most frugal engine will be the 1.6 diesel with its seven-speed automatic gearbox, which helps it achieve 105g/km emissions.

Dr Frank Welsch, Skoda Board Member for Technical Development, said: “With the new Skoda Superb Combi, we have further developed the existing strengths of the Superb and once again set a benchmark for the competition.

“With its expressive, dynamic design, we are emphasising and complimenting Skoda’s expertise in the estate segment.

“The combination of aesthetics, top-of-the range technology and the highest practical benefits makes the new Superb Combi an outstanding vehicle within its segment. With the new flagship, we will attract new customers to our brand.”

More than 200,000 Superb Estates have been shifted worldwide in the six years since its 2009 introduction, representing 35% of all Superb sales.

Orders will be accepted from June, with the first models being delivered in September. And with prices as they are, we’d expect lease rates for a diesel estate to average at around £280 a month on business contract hire.
