Suzuki adds 4x4 model to Swift range
Suzuki has announced that its Swift supermini can now be ordered with a fully automatic and permanent 4WD system.
Following a successful introduction in Japan, as well as Germany and Switzerland, the 4x4 Swift goes on sale in the UK this month. Apart from the 4x4 badging and an increased ride height of 25mm the SZ3 grade appears identical to an equivalent 2WD SZ3 five door. However, the SZ4 model gets a distinctive body kit which includes front and rear skid plates, black wheel arch extensions and black side skirts, as seen below.
The model is only available in five-door 1.2-litre petrol form, with the additional drive components resulting in just a 65kg increase in overall car weight, this means CO2 emissions are only 10g/km higher at 126g/km.
Suzuki are no strangers to 4x4 technology, with their Jimny still one of the most popular compact offroading vehicles around, and the Swift benefits from a simple fully automatic and permanent 4-wheel drive system which transfers additional torque to the rear wheels when required via a viscous coupling.
The top spec SZ4 model also comes with power folding door mirrors with integral indicators and Daylight Running Lamps as standard.
