Top feel-good driving songs of all time
Got the January blues? Bored of Brexit? Stuck in the school run traffic already? Well, according to a new survey, more than 90% of drivers say music can make them feel better – with classic rock and pop more likely to boost moods than modern-day hits.
So what do people like to listen to to make them feel better?
Out of the top ten uplifting songs, eight were recorded in the 70s and 80s. In fact, the top five driving songs are all throwbacks rather than anything from the new millennium – with Pharrell’s Happy and I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas were the only post-2000 songs to feature in the top ten.
Here’s the chart rundown:
5. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor
4. The Proclaimers – I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)
3. Bon Jovi – Livin’ on a Prayer
2. Abba – Dancing Queen

The analysis of 2,000 motorists who listen to music was conducted as part of the car-maker Seat’s partnership with the Music 4 Mental Health concert in November 2018. The inaugural fund-raising gig in London saw the likes of Ed Sheeran and James Arthur supporting mental health issues among young people.
Richard Harrison, managing director of SEAT UK, said: “It’s no surprise to discover just how much drivers love listening to music in the car, although I wasn’t expecting to see so many classics in the list of favourite tracks.”
“We know how important music is to our customers, which is why all our models are equipped with Full Link connectivity so that they can enjoy their favourite bands on the go.”
As Official Car Partner for Music 4 Mental Health, SEAT UK supported the brand-new #IAMWHOLE initiative bringing together some of the most prolific names in British music for a ground-breaking fundraising concert.
The event helped raise funds for mental health charities: Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM); The Mix and YMCA and featured a discussion panel led by #IAMWHOLE founding ambassador Jordan Stephens and featuring Love Island’s Dr Alex George.
