Order books open for all-new Volkswagen Arteon
Order books have opened for the all-new Volkswagen Arteon saloon, and if you’re interested in leasing one, we’ve got deals on site right now.
Taking up where the CC leaves off, this eagerly anticipated fastback saloon is essentially Volkswagen’s version of the A5 Sportback, and it is aiming to take on the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes CLS.
The model is Volkswagen’s new flagship model, and sits above the Passat in the line-up. As such, it gets all the latest infotainment and connectivity tech, while a new, frugal 1.5-litre petrol engine is also available.
At almost 5m in length, the Arteon is an imposing vehicle; no surprise then that it sits on Volkswagen’s latest and largest MQB platform. It clearly draws influences from the likes of the popular A5 Sportback, with a swooping roof line and a tapered rear-end that match (some might say outdo) the Audi’s classy looks.
From the front, it gets a more individual look than we’ve been used to seeing from Volkswagen. The long, elongated bonnet gives off a rather bulbous look, while at the front you’ll find LED headlights that seamlessly meet the horizontal grille.
Things aren’t as radical on the inside and, although it isn’t exactly a luxurious affair, the interior gets all the hallmarks Volkswagen is famous for; the materials used are top notch and build quality is impeccable.
As for technology, Volkswagen’s latest infotainment systems are on offer, with entry-level models featuring the now ubiquitous 6.5in touchscreen. Pay a little extra though, and you can up this to 9.2in and add gesture controls.
The UK Arteon gets two simple choices of trim levels – Elegance and R-Line. Elegance models get 17in alloy wheels, LED headlights and will be fitted with a new 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine producing 148bhp.
Elegance makes up the mid-range trim and gets bigger alloys and additional exterior trim. For those looking for a more sporting look, R-Line (above) will top the range and add sportier wheels and trim among other things.
There’s six engines to choose from in total – three petrols and three diesels. The entry-level petrol is an all-new 1.5-litre TSI with 148bhp and clever cylinder deactivation technology that we’ve already seen on the new Golf.
Two 2.0-litre petrols are also available, with 187bhp and 276bhp respectively. These units also come with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION 4WD system. Diesel-wise, a singular 2.0-litre engine is on offer, but with three power outputs; 148bhp, 187bhp or 237bhp.
With Volkswagen eyeing up the fleet market with the Arteon, we think the diesels will remain the most popular choices. No official mpg details have been released, but we do know that a hybrid-petrol variant is also likely to be on the cards in the near future.
With orders now being taken, deliveries are set to begin shortly. With a list prices kicking off at £34,305, lease prices are also available now with deals from around £332 per month. Check all the lease rates our here.
