We might be on the brink of nuclear war, or merely some tit-for-tat argument between two despots, but that hasn’t stopped us in our tracks. We are British, and like the t-shirt slogan continuously tells us to do … we have kept calm and carried on.

Roundup 110817

So, like a fire-breathing Drogon unleashed on the masses, *spoiler alert* we have obliterated this week’s news in similar fashion:

Drogon Fire Breath

First up, we’ve asked the real important question. Namely, what is the ultimate driving anthem? Whether you opt for a bit of 80s cheese, 90s dance or good ol’ country music, Ford and Spotify think they have discovered the perfect driving anthem thanks to neuroscientific research by Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard (‘who?!’ I hear you cry).

The scientists looked into the connection between sound and emotion while on the move and his track – which you can listen to here – includes all the elements a good driving song apparently needs.

Ultimate driving anthem?

On to more pressing matters now, and the increasing concern around car thieves using sophisticated technology that allows them to hack into your car’s computer. This means they don’t even need a key-fob to start the vehicle, and can drive it away in a matter of minutes.

UK vehicle theft has increased 20% in recent years, and evidence suggests that a new computerised ‘relay’ style attack could explain the spike.

What can you do to protect your car?

The most at risk are cars that use keyless fobs, as well as ‘connected cars’. In other words those that use internet to access maps, travel info and music – basically anything with an internet-enabled infotainment system.

What can you do to protect your car? Well we have a few ideas…

As far as ‘stealable’ cars go, well, they don’t come more enticing than the Nissan GT-R

Nissan GT-R

With utterly ludicrous velocity, out of this world handling, and break-neck acceleration of 0-62 in 2.7 secs, the GT-R is without a shadow of a doubt Nissan’s finest hour as a manufacturer.

With 570 horsepower, a maximum speed of 196mph, a 0-62 time of just 2.7 seconds, a world record for drifting, and an engine that sounds like it’s creating the most powerful vacuum this side of CERN, is it as good as these mouth-watering stats suggest?

Looking for a more sensible/attainable car review? Don’t worry we’ve got something for everyone.

Seat Ibiza review

Having recently taken the Seat Ibiza for a spin at its official UK launch through Liverpool and into North Wales, we found the fifth-generation model to be sharper, edgier, and more complete than its predecessors and expect it to be one of the finest small hatchbacks on the market.

A week of car news wouldn’t be complete without the hint of a new SUV crossover arriving soon, so let us introduce you to the Jeep Compass.

Having recently launched in Europe, we’ll have to wait til early next year to get our hands on one thanks to our pesky right-hand drive system.

Jeep Compass

What can you look forward to when it does get here? How about Jeep’s legendary off-road capability, distinctive design and a variety of user-friendly technologies that ensure a safe, comfortable and connected everyday driving experience.

Can’t wait that long? Sick of SUVs? Well order books opened for the Volkswagen Arteon this week, with lease deals now available on the site.

At almost 5m in length, the Arteon is an imposing vehicle and clearly draws influences from the likes of the popular A5 Sportback, with a swooping roof line and a tapered rear-end that match (some might say outdo) the Audi’s classy looks.

VW’s eagerly anticipated fastback saloon is the company’s new flagship model, and sits above the Passat in the line-up. As such, it gets all the latest infotainment and connectivity tech, while a new, frugal 1.5-litre petrol engine is also available.

Speaking of petrol engines, Audi has expanded its Q2 offering this week. The new 2.0 TFSI petrol produces the highest power output currently available in a Q2, accelerating from 0- 62mph in 6.5 seconds.

And finally… even though it’s Friday and there’s not a lot on and you might think no one is looking at your screen, do not be this guy:

Have a great weekend!
