You’re busy, we all are, so it’s entirely possible that some of the bigger developments in the automotive world passed you by this week.

Lucky for you, we’ve picked out the biggest car news and boiled it down into easily digestible bite-size chunks so you can get up to speed then return to whatever was so important that you missed it in the first place…

weekly round-up 9 nov 2015

Evoque drop-top revealed:
An outrageous imagination wasn’t necessary to visualise Land Rover’s Evoque Convertible; we could have chucked together a decent mock-up in Microsoft Paint quicker than it takes to put the roof down (18 seconds if you’re interested). But one thing we didn’t expect was a bright orange paint-job. Regardless, one of the most desirable SUVs around just got even more so.

UK’s safest cars named:
In the run-up to Road Safety Week (23-29 Nov), we’ve looked at the most death-proof cars you can lease right now and grouped them by size and segment. So whatever you’re in the market for, you can know you’re driving the safest car available.

Hybrid RAV4 coming January:
Toyota has priced its seventh hybrid model, and at under £200 a month for business users, it sure is tempting.

Company car drivers were less clumsy last year:
A 5% dip in road accidents involving business car drivers meant that companies paid about £1m less in excess insurance than in 2013. Defenceless wooden fences weren’t so lucky, though…

Mid-size SUVs collide:
What happens when you chuck a Mazda CX-5, Jeep Cherokee and a Volvo XC60 into a car park? Well, they all kinda just sit there, but picking which one you should lease was a toughie.

BMW sales did well in October:
In the first month of diminished new car sales in three and a half years, BMW was one carmaker flourishing with a 14.5% uplift on the previous October. The UK is the Bavarian carmaker’s fourth biggest market.

Fiat is making a pick-up:
Remember in Street Fighter 2 when you could pit the same character against each other? That’s how it’ll feel when the Fiat Fullback rivals the Mitsubishi L200 in about a year’s time. Under the skin, they’re the same pick-up truck, but even on surface level, the similarities are stark.

Best budget all-wheel-drive cars:
Winter is coming but these affordable 4x4s will keep you going when/if it starts snowing.
