Lexus introduces LBX small crossover

  • 05 Jun 2023

Say hello to the all-new Lexus LBX, a small crossover model that’s set to arrive in the UK later this year.

Featuring a full-hybrid 1.5-litre drivetrain, it will act as the brand’s entry-level model and sit beneath the UX in the range. Here’s what you need to know.

Lexus LBX fast facts

  • Alternative to cars like the DS 3
  • 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid drivetrain
  • New design language
  • 9.8in touchscreen infotainment system
  • Order books to open in October

Lexus LBX styling

The small crossover market is a completely new segment for Lexus, and as such the LBX benefits from completely fresh design language that helps it stand out from the rest of the line-up. The bumper and grille is notably smaller than larger models, while the headlights are softer and less angular.

Round the back, the new styling continues. Again, its lines are softer than larger Lexus models, although it still gets a full-width light bar that runs across the boot lid. A range of alloy wheel options will be available, along with two-tone paint options with a gloss black roof.

The LBX is actually quite a small car, even within its market; it’s just over four metres long for starters. That means it’s around the same size as a DS 3 and smaller than cars like Mercedes’ GLA.

Lexus LBX interior and tech

Inside, Lexus’ trademark quality is present, with plush trim and materials used throughout. On the tech front, there’s a 9.8in touchscreen infotainment system that supports smartphone mirroring, while the driver gets a large 12in digital display in front of the steering wheel.

You’re reminded that this is a small model in the back, with the LBX offering less passenger and boot space than some rivals – it has 332 litres of luggage capacity.

Lexus LBX drivetrain

A singular fully hybrid drivetrain will be available from launch, which utilises a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and electric motor. The hybrid system has been developed to offer refinement on long journeys and improved efficiency compared to previous versions.

Specs are to be confirmed, although we know that the LBX will be available in both two- and four-wheel drive form. We’ll bring you the stats as soon as they’re revealed.

Lexus LBX release date

The LBX will be available to order later this year, with deliveries commencing during the first quarter of 2024. We’ll bring you more details and of course the best lease plans as soon as they become available.
