Maserati Levante Hybrid: SUV gets electric treatment

  • 21 Apr 2021

Maserati has confirmed its Levante SUV has been electrified with the arrival of a new hybrid model.

Following on from the Ghibli Hybrid, it uses mild-hybrid tech to produce 330hp and 450Nm of torque. Here’s what you need to know.

Maserati Levante Hybrid exterior

Not much has changed on the outside, but the Levante looks as stunning as ever. The hybrid version will be available exclusively in GT trim from launch.

That means you get the lovely metallic Azzuro paint seen here as standard, while other details include air vent highlights at the side, cobalt blue brake callipers and some new logos.

Maserati Levante Hybrid interior and tech

The interior remains pretty much unchanged too, although the 8.4in infotainment system has been updated and now include Android Automotive – this makes connecting your phone a much slicker process, as well as adding Amazon Alexa access.

Maserati Levante drivetrain

The new mild-hybrid drivetrain consists of a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that uses a starter generator and battery pack. It produces 330hp and up to 450Nm of torque.

The result is a 0-62mh run of six seconds and a top speed of 149mph. The 48V electric assistance uses new technology that harnesses previously lost energy from the car’s turbo.

This ensures that power and performance remains the same as the outgoing, more powerful V6, but with almost 20% less emissions. Exact fuel economy is to be confirmed, so we’ll bring you all the details as soon as we know more.

Maserati Levante all-wheel drive system

Maserati has tweaked the Q4 all-wheel drive system too, which now distributes power more equally and takes into account the weight of the updated drivetrain.

Combined with a tweaked double wishbone suspension, its aim is to give a sporty feel or impressive off-road capability depending on the circumstance.

Maserati Levante Hybrid release date

Order books are set to open in July, so we’ll bring you leasing plans as soon as they become available.

List prices are to be confirmed, but it should cost from around £70,000.
