Mercedes-Benz EQA line-up expanded
Say hello to the all-new Mercedes-Benz EQA – the brand’s first all-electric compact crossover.
Sitting below the larger EQC SUV, Mercedes has just announced two new versions will be joining the line-up: the EQA 300 4MATIC and the EQA 350 4MATIC.
They join the EQA 250, which is already available. Here’s everything you need to know.
Mercedes EQA styling
On the outside, this compact electric crossover carries over much of the styling we’ve seen on the EQC. That means there’s an ‘EQ’ grille up front, lighting strips that run along the front and rear of the car, with the front benefiting from LED headlights too.
To the side, the silhouette resembles the GLA model, although there are a number of different trim pieces and blue detailing that set it apart from combustion-powered models. Customisable alloy wheels of up to 20in are available, with two-tone and three-tone designs on offer.
Mercedes EQA interior
The interior of the EQA is centred around Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system. All models get a thermal management system that’s designed to pre-condition the battery pack remotely.
The infotainment system also comes with a satnav that gets an electric intelligence function. This means it can calculate the fastest route, taking into account available chargers for charging stops as well as variables such as traffic, weather and driving style.
As for the rest of the EQA’s interior, well it’s surprisingly similar to the GLA. That’s to say very plush, with ambient lighting, exquisite air vents featuring. Controls are touch-sensitive, while Mercedes’ “Hey Mercedes!” voice command control is standard too.
Other equipment includes a reversing camera, four-way adjustable luxury seats, active lane keeping assist and active brake assist. Other options can be added by choosing one of the numerous personalisation packages: AMG Line, Electric Art and Night Package. A driver assistance pack also adds more safety features such as pedestrian warning.
Mercedes EQA drivetrain
The EQA uses the same platform as the GLA, but under the floor you’ll find a battery pack and front-mounted electric motor. The EQA is now available in three guises: 250, 300 4MATIC and the 350 4MATIC.
This 250 gives the car a 0-62mph time of under 9 seconds and a (limited) top speed of 99mph. The 66.5kWh battery pack offers around 265 miles of range between charging, while a maximum DC charging rate of 100kW is available. That means using a fast charger, you can add 80% charge in less than half an hour.
The EQA 300 4MATIC is a dual-motor all-wheel drive fully electric compact SUV. With 228 hp this powertrain offers increased performance with the usability and practicality of a 4MATIC all wheel drive system. Prices start from £48,495 for the EQA 300 4MATIC AMG Line.
The EQA 350 4MATIC also uses dual electric motors which provide 292 hp and mean it can travel from 0 to 62 mph in 6.0 seconds. The dual-motor set-up also utilises a 4MATIC system adding capability and confidence to the driving experience.
