2021 Ssangyong Rexton: Seven-seat SUV gets a rework

  • 10 Mar 2021

The seven-seat Ssangyong Rexton SUV has been updated, with a more potent engine, styling tweaks and an all-new gearbox option.

Here’s what you need to know.

Ssangyong Rexton exterior

On the outside, the Rexton has received a revamp courtesy of an imposing new front end. The large grille has been reworked, while LED headlights have also been added. A new bumper completes the look.

It’s the same at the rear, where you’ll now find a fresh set of LED headlights and tweaked styling cues. It’s certainly an imposing looking vehicle.

Ssangyong Rexton interior and trims

The interior is as spacious as ever, but it’s now been updated to include a new full digital instrument cluster along with ne centre console controls and overhead trim pieces.

As for trim levels, Ventura replaces the entry-level ELX, while a new Ultimate range-topping trim adds features such as a 9in infotainment screen, 18in alloy wheels and heated seats.

Ssangyong Rexton engines

The biggest change is a revision to the 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine. In its previous form, it produced 180hp, but this now stands at around 200hp courtesy of some tweaks.

Torque has increased too, which combined with the Rexton’s four-wheel drive system ensures it remains a go-to car for those that tow heavy trailers and caravans.

The engine is mated to a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, while the four-wheel drive systems remains selectable and includes high and low ratio settings.

Ssangyong Rexton release date

No release date has yet been given, but expect the Rexton to arrive in the next few months. It will be priced from £37,995 rising to £40,665 when it arrives. We’ll bring you leasing plans as soon as they are available.
