Mazda CX-5: Crossover gets new tech and tweaks for 2021

  • 28 Jan 2021

The Mazda CX-5 has been comprehensively updated for the new year, with the tweaked crossover featuring a new petrol engine option, better interior tech and other tweaks.

With entry-level models getting a list price of £28,830, here’s what you need to know.

Mazda CX-5 exterior

On the outside, it’s business as usual for the Tiguan alternative. The only change is the arrival of a limited-edition Kuro trim.

This will be available in two colours: Soul Red and Polymetal Grey. It’ll also sport matching door mirror trims and 19in black alloy wheels. Priced from £31,20, only 750 cars in this form will come to the UK.

On the inside, Kuro trimmed models come with heated seats, leather-style upholstery and contrasting red stitching.

All models, however, benefit from a new infotainment system. A more intuitive 10.25in touchscreen is standard across the range, while connectivity functions have been improved across the board too.

Mazda CX-5 engines and drivetrain

Arguably the biggest change is under the bonnet, with a new 2.5-litre petrol engine now topping the range. Using clever cylinder-deactivation tech, it’s aimed at improving efficiency and saving fuel. It features an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard and produces 195hp.

Front-wheel drive cars can still be specified with the smaller 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 168hp. This now also benefits from the same cylinder deactivation tech as the high-end model, but gets a six-speed manual in place of the automatic.

Diesel models are also available, with 150hp and 185hp models completing the line-up. Trim levels remain the same as before, although the GT Sport trim can now be had with front-wheel drive models for the first time.

Mazda CX-5 prices and release date

Available to order now, leasing plans on the new CX-5 will be available soon. List prices start from £28,830 for the SE-L, rising to £32,730 for the range-topping GT Sport.

The limited edition Kuro will cost from £31,230, while deliveries for the new models are set to commence in March.
