Jeep Compass and Renegade get mild-hybrid treatment

  • 20 Jan 2022

Jeep has updated its Compass and Renegade line-ups to include mild-hybrid tech. The smaller Renegade gets a list price of £31,130 and the Compass is available from £32,895.

We’ll bring you leasing plans as soon as they’re available. In the meantime, here’s what you need to know about the changes.

Styling

Externally, the pair haven’t changed much at all. The biggest news is that from launch, both new models will be available exclusively in Upland trim.

This means they get a Maz Azur paint job with contrasting roof (as shown in the pics), large alloy wheels and specially painted trim pieces. The Renegade gets 17in alloys, while the Compass boasts 18in alloys.

Interior

Both revised models offer impressive levels of tech and safety equipment, with an 8.4in touchscreen infotainment system standard on both models. However, you can plump for a larger 10.1in screen if you go for the Compass.

The system includes Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa functionality, while the digital driver displays show key info about the new hybrid system.

Both also boast a healthy level of safety tech. Traffic sign recognition, autonomous emergency braking and speed assist are standard, as is an adaptive cruise control system capable of steering the car on motorways.

New mild-hybrid system

The new mild-hybrid options join the existing plug-in hybrid cars, but their tech allows them to undercut them from a price perspective.

The Renegade and Compass both use a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine combined with a 15kW electric motor that uses regen braking. It uses electric power when starting the vehicle, when you’re parking, at low speeds and when cruising at higher speeds.

Jeep claims the changes mean a 15% improvement on fuel consumption, while CO2 outputs are very similar to the current petrol models in the range.

Leasing plans and release date

With list prices announced, it’s likely order books will open for both models soon. We’ll bring you leasing plans as soon as they’re on offer.
