Mercedes GLE styling

A number of small tweaks have been made to both the SUV and Coupe, although considering the car is still a pretty fresh design, they really are quite minimal.

Up front you’ll find revised bumpers that incorporates a larger front grille and a new air intake design. The headlights have also been changed, with a slightly less angular look than previously.

The rear lights have changed too, mainly thanks to a new LED light signature, while the bumper has been refreshed to match the front with extra vents and a larger diffuser.

Mercedes GLE interior and tech

In the driver’s seat, you’ll find that the steering wheel has been swapped out for a new one, while the dashboard remains familiar. It gets the stunning widescreen MBUX infotainment system, which has an updated interface.

Both screens are 12.3in in diameter as standard, although they appear flush so it looks like it’s one single unit. The “Hey Mercedes” voice command system has also been improved too.

Mercedes GLE drivetrains

The biggest changes are arguably under the bonnet. Every single engine option now gets mild hybrid tech as standard, while the plug-in hybrids get a tad extra range.

The plug-in is available with either a petrol or diesel 2.0-litre unit, which both utilise a 40kWh battery to provide 68 miles of electric-only power – that’s more than 10 miles more than the outgoing models can manage.

There’ll also be a fresh pair of AMG GLE models offered, with the 53 model using a 3.0-litre twin turbo engine producing 435hp. The GLE 63 S uses a 4.0-litre V8, pumping power up to 612hp. However, power output remains unchanged for the AMG models when compared to the outgoing versions.
