We’ve collected what we believe are the top five SUVs on the market at the moment - perfect for towing a caravan or going camping in the great outdoors to make the most of your family summer.

Jaguar F-Pace

Jaguar has been going from strength to strength this past year, and king of the mountain is their F-Pace SUV. Despite being a newcomer to the highly competitive market, the quality of the model speaks for itself as it perfectly exemplifies Jaguar’s core values of grace, pace, and space within a fashionable off-roader.

With running costs you’d only expect from a family saloon, along with gigantic boot space and big roomy seats, you’ll be able to drive in comfort no matter the length or terrain of your journey making it both fun and capable. What’s more the Sportbrake trim offers unparalleled stability, ample power and self-levelling suspension which ensures it can tow up to 1,500kg.

When we got behind the wheel of the Jaguar F-Pace, we were beyond impressed.

Volvo XC90

We crowned the XC90 as our Large SUV Of The Year in 2015 and with good reason. With its spacious, classy interior and the comfort and refinement in the cab, it proved to be not only a relaxing car to drive but a surprisingly agile one too, with good all-round visibility making it as easy to drive through a busy city centre as it is on the motorway.

The boot space is huge even with all the seats up, and has more than enough capacity for a weekly shop, luggage, fishing tackle or a bunch of tools and materials from B&Q. What’s more, if you opt for a trim with air suspension you can lower the back end to make loading and unloading easier.

The entire model seems to have been painstakingly thought over by the team at Volvo, with no aspect overlooked. This means that the driving experience, the performance, and the interior are all second-to-none.

Audi Q7

You have to be a brave manufacturer with a faultless model in your arsenal to step up to the likes of the Volvo XC90, but when Audi did it with the Q7 last year it was to universal praise.

The Audi Q7 shines on the motorway and thanks to the all-wheel steering system it performs well in the city too. Head off-road and it holds its own there, with a handy Hill Descent system built in to assist the car comfortably down steep inclines.

In the back there’s 295 litres of boot which expands to 770 litres when you collapse the third-row seats. Fold the second row forward as well and there’s a massive 1,955 litres to play with meaning you can fit near enough anything in there. What’s more, if you’re looking to tow a caravan then the electrically deployable trailer hitch allows you to tow up to 3,500kg!

Kia Sorento

No doubt the biggest car to make the list, Kia is renowned for quality, price, equipment and styling when it comes to their range and the Sorento is no exception.

The seven-seater SUV not only offers impressive practicality in a great-value package but a classy interior and generous amount of equipment too. On top of this, the added size has provided drivers and passengers with bigger head and legroom along with more boot space for trips away.

Though it only comes with one engine option, the 2.2 litre diesel will do anything you need it to from towing a caravan to going off-road. You can’t go wrong with the Sorento - nowhere else will you get this much kit and practicality for so little money.

Land Rover Discovery Sport

With its dashing looks and slick detailing, you can be forgiven for thinking the Discovery Sport is a Range Rover product.

Composed and agile whether on or off the road, thanks to its Terrain Response system which adapts the traction control to suit different conditions, the model combines smart looks with a luxury interior, seven-seat versatility and decent driving dynamics. On top of that, there’s a mammoth 981-litre capacity in the boot, jumping to 1,698 litres with the seats down.

As the replacement model for the Freelander, the Discovery Sport had big tyres to fill, but the model is a stylish and capable 4x4 with impressive running costs.
