Top five sports coupes

Coupes will always be hugely popular among the leasing public and the reasons why are fairly simple – they look sleek and sporty and offer something of the supercar experience without the supercar costs.

Audi TT

Now in its third generation, the Audi TT has been on the roads since 1997 and from day one it has not only offered head-turning looks but a thoroughly enjoyable drive. What’s more, with its strong performance and impressive fuel economy, the range continues to be highly competitive.

There are three trim levels available, starting with the Sport model which comes with 1.8- or 2.0-litre TFSI petrol power or a 2.0 TDI, the two bigger engines available with optional quattro.

Porsche 718 Cayman

The Porsche 718 Cayman brings with it enviable badge quality, distinctive looks and (relatively) reasonable cost.

Porsche enthusiasts may bemoan the fact that the new model has gone from a loud six-cylinder engine to four-cylinder turbo, but they would be ignoring the more important fact that the 718 Cayman is faster, cheaper to run, and even better to drive than the previous model. No rival on this list can come close to its level of performance.

Volkswagen Scirocco

Aiming for a level of practicality in a sporty car can often be its death knell, but the Scirocco gets around this by being a chimera between coupe and hatchback.

Although it offers style, space and ability, as well as retaining the advantage of sharp handling and VW reputation for build quality, the Scirocco has been around for a while now and is starting to show its age – especially on the inside.

That said, some of the lease deals on our site are very enticing for that very reason and it’s definitely worth contemplating.

Jaguar F-Type

With a 5-litre V8 under the bonnet of the Jaguar F-Type, you’ll be in for a treat the minute you turn on the ignition. And with a huge 543bhp and 680Nm of torque available at your feet the fun won’t stop there either.

With a road presence increased by stunning sports car looks and punctuated by the long bonnet and short tail, the F-Type also offers thrilling handling and performance brake handling.

And it’s not as impractical as you’d think either – with selectable driving modes at your fingertips it’s a good long-distance GT car when in normal setting but turns into something really special when you put it into Dynamic mode.

Ford Mustang Fastback

Big, brash, bold and distinctly American, the V8 Mustang is exciting and fun to drive and will turn heads wherever you go.

Looking both retro and modern at the same time, the Mustang can feel like a contradiction at times but for the most part it works. Few cars on this list will make you smile this way this one does when you turn the ignition and that V8 engine starts rumbling.
