Tusker has confirmed the Ford Fiesta is the most popular choice of salary sacrifice vehicle. The Ford hatchback is followed by Nissan’s popular crossovers – the Juke and Qashqai – which take second and third place respectively.

Government urged to leave salary sacrifice car schemes alone

The list comes from salary sacrifice provider Tusker. More than ever, this year’s list demonstrates the increasing dominance of low-emission cars – nine of the ten models to make the list produce under 100g/km of C02. With average new cars in the UK emitting 124g/km, that puts Tusker salary sacrifice cars among the cleanest on the road.

It’s no surprise that the Ford has taken the top spot – it’s the UK’s most popular vehicle, with over 50,000 new Fiestas being registered since January.

Behind the ceaseless popularity of Nissan’s crossovers, Audi’s A3 takes fourth position. The Audi A1 also makes the list, showing that those wanting a premium German badge are also opting for the smaller, eco-friendly models.

Another crossover to make the list is Renault’s Captur, in seventh place, while the Clio takes ninth.  The Peugeot 208 (5th), Toyota Aygo (8th) and Citroen C1 (10th) complete the list. These fashionable city cars are further proof that people are choosing small, fuel efficient models to maximise savings.

Low-emission vehicles

Salary sacrifice is the most popular employee benefit in the UK, allowing employers to offer highly cost-effective schemes to employees. When it comes to cars, employees can increase savings further by opting for models that emit the least amount of C02.

Paul Gilshan, chief marketing officer for Tusker, said: “Salary sacrifice drivers are very savvy. They know that the lower the CO2 of their selected the car, the more money they will save in monthly costs and improved fuel savings.

“We expect salary sacrifice drivers to continue to lead the way when it comes to ultra-low emission vehicles, and next year’s list will continue to be dominated by this type of vehicle.”
