The Kia EV9 has been declared Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year 2024, with the large electric SUV snatching the prize away from other shortlisted candidates such as the Volvo EX30 and BMW 5 Series.

A total of 75 women from the motoring world voted, with the announcement coinciding with International Women’s Day. The EV9 has also been named as “UK Car of the Year 2024” in what is a double win for the new SUV.

Prior to casting their votes, the 75 female motoring journalists hailing from 52 nations diligently tested numerous car models, thoroughly evaluating every aspect. Out of the five finalists, the Kia EV9 came out on top.

Sara Soria, one of the judges from Spain, commented: “Kia has developed a large SUV with an electric motor that stands out for its good aerodynamics, innovative design, high levels of technology – with up to level 3 autonomous driving. And because it offers bi-directional charging and ultra-fast 800-volt charging.”

Marta Garcia, president of WWCOTY said: “This year’s election was particularly difficult due to the excellent level of all the candidates. Each of the finalists had sufficient merit to win the trophy. The EV9 has won out over its rivals because it is a vehicle capable of satisfying the needs of consumers everywhere.”

The Kia EV9 came out on top of 63 contenders, with a shortlist of five vehicles in each category emerging victorious after an initial round of voting. These included: the Volvo EX30 (family car), BMW 5 Series (large car), Kia EV9 (SUV), Volkswagen Amarok (4x4 & pick-up) and the Aston Martin DB12 (exclusive car).

Women's Worldwide Car of the Year is the only car awards group in the world composed exclusively of women motoring journalists. It was created by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre in 2009. She is Honorary President while Marta García is Executive President.
