March is always a busy time in the car business – the arrival of a new plate always causes a stir. Whilst it’s not the end of the world if your car wears the shiniest new plate on offer, it’s a nice thought isn’t it?

23 plate top 5 lead

And with lead times improving all the time following the chip shortage, deliveries for a host of exciting new models are expected to commence over the coming months.

So, here’s five of the latest models that’ll match the latest 23 plate perfectly.

Jeep Avenger

Deliveries from: Q1 2023

Jeep Avenger

First on the list is an all-new Jeep – and it’s a very important car for the brand. The Avenger is the first fully electric Jeep model and has been designed as its new baby SUV for Europe. That means it’s an alternative to cars like the Nissan Juke and Ford Puma.

Happily, it offers more space and practicality than both those models. It borrows its electric underpinnings from the fantastic Peugeot e-2008, which means it has an official range of 248 miles courtesy of a 51kWh battery pack.

All models feature a 10in infotainment touchscreen and a 7in digital driver display, while Jeep’s off-roading prowess comes as standard too courtesy of Selec-Terrain and Hill Descent Control – useful for when the going gets tough.

Peugeot 408

Deliveries from: Now

Peugeot 408

If you’re a fan of the SUV-coupe look, then you’ll love the 408 from Peugeot. It’s a stunning looking car, with a sharp front end and fastback styling. It’s been designed to take on cars like the Renault Arkana and Citroen’s C5 X. But we think it looks better than both of those.

Step inside and you’ll find a seriously premium interior that’s every bit as good as many German cars. There’s a fantastic 10in infotainment system that’s miles ahead of older Peugeot units. Of course, it’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features fantastic 3D-style graphics.

A number of petrol and hybrid engines are offered, all featuring a smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox. The range-topping 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid model produces 225hp and can manage about 40 miles on electric power alone – perfect for commutes and the school run.

MG4

Deliveries from: Now

MG 4

The MG4 is the most accomplished model to date from the Chinese brand, and is aimed squarely at those considering cars like the Volkswagen ID.3. It offers fantastic value for money, with the same level – and more – of specification as the VW in many instances.

Aside from the all-new sharp styling, the interior is much more contemporary and high quality than we’re used to seeing from MG. SE models get a 10in infotainment touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, while the digital driver display looks even better than the Volkswagen’s in our opinion.

The new MG sits on a fresh, all-electric platform, with two versions available from launch: Standard and Long Range. Standard models feature a 51kWh battery offering up to 218 miles of range. The Long Range has a larger 64kWh battery pack, and ups range to 281 miles.

Ora Funky Cat

Deliveries from: Q1 2023

Ora Funky Cat

The Funky Cat gets a great mix of modern and retro styling, and monthly prices are comparable to cars like the Volkswagen ID.3. 6,000 pre-orders have already been taken, so we expect this to prove a popular model for the 23 plate.

On the inside, there’s a pair of 10.25in screens, with the infotainment system featuring an app that allows you to control various functions remotely. Over-the-air updates are also on offer, while the centre-console features the gearbox control dials.

From launch, a 48kWh battery pack will be offered, which offers a range of up to 193 miles. It’s compatible with rapid charging of up so 80kW, which allows a 15% to 80% recharge in less than 45 minutes. Via a 11kW home charger, you can expect a recharge in 3 to 4 hours.

Hyundai Ioniq 6

Deliveries from: Q1 2023

Hyundai Ioniq 6

Despite sitting on the same platform, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 couldn’t look any more different than its Ioniq 5 retro sibling. This streamlined saloon is available to order now and, if it’s anything like the 5, will take the leasing market by storm.

Beneath the swooping bodywork, you’ll find either a 53kWh or 77kWh battery pack, with the larger unit offering up to 379 miles between charges. You can also get a full charge in under half of hour thanks to the system’s rapid charge capability.

Inside, you’ll find a stunning twin-screen infotainment and digital driver display set up and a floating centre console that’s been designed to increase storage capacity and create more passenger room. All in all, it’s a beautiful car. Expect to see a surge in 23 plate Ioniq 6s on the road very soon.
