Say hello to Alfa Romeo’s first all-electric car – the  Junior. You read that right – it was the Milano, but it has been renamed the Junior.

Read on to find out why, and everything else you need to know about the brand’s new compact SUV.

Alfa Romeo Junior fast facts

  • Alfa’s first EV renamed the Junior
  • Compact crossover with stunning looks
  • 1.2-litre hybrids also set to be offered
  • EV will be available with 160hp or 240hp
  • 250+ miles of range for the lower powered EV

Why has it been renamed?

Alfa confirmed it will be renaming the car from the Milano, just days after its reveal. The change comes after an Italian Minister confirmed the Milano name was actually illegal due to the car being built in Poland.

Adolfo Urso, the minister in question, said: “A car called Milano cannot be produced in Poland as law stipulates that you cannot give indications that mislead consumers”.

It’s an interesting comment, considering cars the likes of Seat and Hyundai are often named after towns and cities – where they aren’t actually built.

Despite sharing parts with cars in the Stellantis stable, the Junior gets a unique look in traditional Alfa fashion. The front end gets the trademark shield grille, while the headlights meld neatly into vented areas, giving the front end a really stand-out look.

To the side, the window line shoots upwards towards the rear, helping give the Junior a purposeful look. A range of alloys will be available, including the stunning 20in cross-like units fitted to the car you see here.

Round the back, a thin light bar wraps around the tail gate, which appears to have an indented area. It all comes together to ensure the Junior is one of the sharpest-looking crossovers of 2024.

It shares a platform with the Fiat 600, and its relation to other Stellantis products becomes obvious inside. There’s a 10in infotainment system that’s carried straight over, although a number of physical controls remain.

It’s all angled towards the driver, who also gets a digital display in the binnacle. Exact specs are to be confirmed, but we’ll bring you further info on trim levels as and when they are revealed.

This is Alfa’s first EV, and from launch a pair of all-electric versions will be offered: 160hp and 240hp units will be offered. We know it’ll feature a 54kWh battery pack, which will enable the less powerful electric Junior to achieve around 250 miles.

Again, exact specs are to be confirmed. We do also know that a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid option will also feature, but we’ll have to wait to hear more info on that model too.
