Jaguar has taken the covers off a concept car – the slab-sided Type 00 (Zero Zero). The eagerly awaited reveal follows on from what was probably the most controversial teaser video ever

The new model features bold design cues, and takes the form of a two-door coupe (although it’s unlikely a two-door model will make production).

The brand plans to take its cars further upmarket in the future, creating EVs that’ll compete with Bentley, Porsche and Aston Martin. Here’s everything we know so far.

Type 00 styling

Keep in mind that this is still very much a concept car, but it’s clear the Type 00 marks a clear breakaway from any existing or past design language – which is exactly what Jaguar said it was going to do.

Despite the controversy surrounding the remarketing exercise, this isn’t the first time the brand has “reinvented the wheel” – Consider the E-Type in 1961. That looked like nothing before too.

The design itself is decidedly slabby – whatever you think of it, it’s certainly an imposing and impressive thing. The side profile is reminiscent of the Rolls Royce Spectre.

At the front, you get a thin slat for the headlights, while the front air intakes, bumper and grille all follow the same slabby design cues as the side profile. At the rear, there’s no window – just a row of slats that we guess will hide the tail lights.

Type 00 interior and tech

Again, the pics of the interior show the car very much in a conceptual stage. The design is extremely minimalist and utilises a number of natural materials What first appears to be wood trim is actually brass.

The huge dashboard continues the ribbed effect that’s present on the bonnet, while the steering wheel is squared off and features the new “JaGUar” insignia.

The infotainment system is hidden when the car is stationary, but pops out from beneath the dash when you’re driving. It’s made up of two huge screens that is split by that interesting centre console / brass banister thing.

Type 00 tech details

There’s no news on any performance or spec details for the Type 00, but we do know it’ll be underpinned by the new Jaguar Electric Architecture.

We do, however, know that the Type 00 will be good for almost 500 miles of range, and it’ll be capable of super-quick recharges too.

Type 00 release date

The Type 00 is very much still in concept guise, but we can expect Jaguar to reveal a production car based on it next year, with deliveries potentially commencing in 2026.

It’ll cost upwards of £100,000, putting it on par with cars like the Porsche Taycan. We’ll bring you further details on this all-new model as and when they’re revealed.
