Toyota has taken the covers off its Urban Cruiser – a small, compact electric model.

Due to hit the market during the second half of 2025, it’ll be competing against models like the Kia EV3 and Suzuki e-Vitara. Here’s what you need to know.

Toyota Urban Cruiser styling

If you think the shape looks a little familiar, that’s because it is: it shares a platform and design cues with the recently revealed Suzuki e-Vitara. While it gets a different front end, side on and from the rear these cars look almost identical.

But that’s no bad thing: the e-Vitara is a good-looking car with chunky body cladding, sharp lines and nice touches like a lighting bar at the rear.

Toyota Urban Cruiser interior and tech

It’s a similar story inside, where you’ll find a dashboard and specification very similar to the Suzuki. All cars get a 10.25in digital driver display, along with a 10in infotainment system. It supports smartphone mirroring via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Urban Cruiser also has a longer wheelbase than the smaller Yaris Cross, which ensures the interior is spacious in the front and rear. The rear seats have a 40:20:40 configuration for flexibility, and the trim used in the interior matches the chunky robust appearance of the exterior design.

Toyota Urban Cruiser powertrains

Two battery packs are offered: a 49kWh and 61kWh battery. The lower battery is offered with a n electric motor producing 133hp, while the larger version ups power to 174hp. The most potent is the optional all-wheel drive model, which with two motors provides up to 184hp.

All Urban Cruiser versions are equipped with an energy-saving heat pump for the air conditioning system and manually operated battery pre-heating to optimise performance in colder conditions.

Details on range are to be confirmed, although we can expect the larger battery model to offer upwards of 200 miles of range.
