Tesla Model Y: All-new generation revealed in full
Tesla has taken the covers off its all-new Model Y, with deliveries set to commence in the UK in May.
With fresh styling inspired by the Cybercab, new tech and even more range, Tesla will be hoping the new model continues where the outgoing model (also the UK’s most popular EV) leaves off.
Here’s what you need to know.
Tesla Model Y 2025 fast facts
- Sharp, angular styling replaces more rounded look
- Interior tech and quality improvements
- 20+ miles more range than outgoing model
- Same 75kWh battery as before
Tesla Model Y styling
The new Model Y marks a fresh break from the outgoing model. The styling is completely fresh, with a sharper front face that combines a full-width light bar with low-lying headlights. It looks sportier and more aggressive than the outgoing model.
To the side, the silhouette is still instantly recognisable though, with the same flush door handle design and teardrop shape as before. 19in or 20in alloys will be available depending on specification.
At the rear, there’s another full-width light bar spanning the tail gate, but there’s a twist; the light actually comes from beneath the bar itself, giving the rear of the car a cool kind of glow.
Tesla Model Y interior and tech
Changes aren’t as dramatic as the outside, with a very similar interior to the outgoing model. Look a little closer, and you’ll see the materials have taken a step up. The plastic on the doors are of a higher quality, while ambient lighting has also been tweaked.
Interestingly, unlike the latest Model 3, the new Model Y retains its indicator stalk. Everything else however, is operated via the landscape touchscreen. It’s still a 15in unit, and is very reactive and easy to understand compared with some rivals.
Tesla Model Y powertrains
The updated Model Y retains the same battery as the outgoing model – a 75kWh unit. However, courtesy of its more aerodynamic styling, it’s actually more efficient. Range stands at 353 miles – more than 20 miles more than the old model.
From launch, you’ll be able to spec a Model Y in Dual Motor form, with a 4.1-second 0-60mph time. Following its initial launch though, expect to see both more potent and more frugal models join the range.
